Hampi: Seven Wonders

Hampi

Hampi is a small village located on the southern bank of Tungabhadra River in Karnataka. The name Hampi is traditionally also known as Pampa Kshetra owing to its location on the bank of Pampa River which is old name of Tungabhadra. Hampi has many Hindu temples and have a high mythological value. Many temples of Hampi are still worshiped. It is in the Bellary district of northern Karnataka. Hampi lies in the region where ruins of Vijayanagara are found. Earlier it was also called Vijayanagara. Hampi has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The region has been endangered since 1999-2006 due to mining activities.
The information about who built the city is still unavailable and there is a conflict among the dates when the city was formed. The oldest date settled to the history of Hampi is 1 A.D.
Hampi is a very beautiful place to visit and has been included in the list of Seven Wonders of India by Times of India.

Antikythera mechanism It is the oldest gear system found till date and is also famous as the oldest analog computer of the world. the calculator has been dated to be built in 1st century BC. The mechanism was found in 1900-1901 from a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera and is of Greek origin.
